Ms M was a pregnant mare who suddenly came down with acute foot pain on her right fore. She was attended by the vet and farrier who diagnosed laminitis and a laminitis protocol was followed with a shoe, bute and stall rest. She seemed to be more comfortable with the show package. She had been frolicking in the paddock the few days before and the ground was hard and her soles were thin. It was initially suspected that the mare had concussion laminitis. An X-ray was not taken as the mares condition escalated rapidly until she could not walk and laid down and did not get back up.
